- Strawberry Festival
Sounding Board – Sunday, July 10th
Want would you like to see for Older Adults in parks, recreation and the arts in five years?
PARKS:
Park trails are good and nice to have
Walking/cycling paths are a pet peeve (need them separated)
More off leash parks! X 3
What do I play on at the parks?!
Need paved flat trails wide enough for a couple to walk together – 70yrs+
We love the bike trails. Keep up the bike trail maintenance.
Courtesy cycle bell when approaching from behind
Help clean up the water and the park form the debris
In Copenhagen cyclists get an advance at the intersection, ahead of cars
Outdoor exercise equipment
With knee problems need wide (2 person) paths which are smooth, easy to walk on. I need an arm to hang onto so double-wide. I love Beaver Lake for that.
In Winnipeg, one park has yoga stations around the soccer park. Parent and grandparents can de those strength exercises – low cost to implement, no equipment needed
Please mark/sign the degree of difficulty on trails at entrances
SOCIAL & RECREATIONAL
Hard to meet people our age (early 55-65yrs)
Soup’s on! Meet up!
Coffee and snack meet up
Have a coffee shop in libraries so you can go and get coffee house (or pub) in library
Meal Group
Keep libraries open in the summer on Sundays, especially at Rec Centre libraries
Keep Commonwealth Place open past 4:00pm (regular hours) on weekends in summer
Offer pole walking
Walk & Talk geared to 80+ and walk the same place each week.
More drop-ins (like pickleball) for yoga/meditation instead of 8wk structured program
More Gentle fitness programs
Like to knit –
Commonwealth expand their offerings – weight room is not welcoming (we like The Shapes in Winnipeg – more interconnected)
More drop ins
