Chinese Seniors Drop-in and Choir Group

A group of 7 participants of the above mentioned groups. Session was conducted with the help of a translator.
- How long have you been in Canada, when was the first time you had visited Gordon Head and what activities are you involved in?

-In Canada 6 years. Attend the GHRC every Wednesday for the srs drop in and choir group. Also like to play ping pong. Also goes to Commonwealth for their drop in program.
-In Canada 4 years. Have been attending the drop-in for 2 years. Likes to play ping pong and other games. Also attends the Commonwealth Drop-in and uses the library and health lectures.
-Has been coming to Gordon Head for 4 years. Founder of the Srs Choir group which has around 80 members. The age range of the choir group is from around 50-mid 80’s. Organizes the choir group on a volunteer basis.
-22 yrs in Canada and has been coming to Gordon Head for 10 years. Enjoys swimming once a week.
-34 years in Canada. Likes swimming, ping pong, and singing in the choir group. Is very happy that the choir group meets at Gordon Head. Commented on the fact that at Silver Threads you have to pay for ping pong while at Gordon Head it is free. Would like more space and number of tables at Gordon Head. At Commonwealth they have Mah Jong and would like to see the same offered her at Gordon Head.
-4 years in Canada, but has been coming to Gordon Head for 10 years. Came to the centre as a visitor to Canada. Very thankful for all that is offered at Gordon Head. - What is the best part of recreation and opportunities available to you?
- We like ping pong, can they get a bigger space for ping pong and add more tables?
- Enjoy the choir and singing
- Ping Pong at Cedar Hill is very busy. Silver Treads has decided to cancel their program. Is there opportunities for ping pong elsewhere?
- Swimming
- People in the centre are very nice/ staff are very nice/ welcoming/ very friendly/ responsible.
- Location of centre very good and within walking distance of where they live.
- Activities are limited b/c of their age.

- What are some possible new programs you’d like to see offered?
- Badminton
- Cooking classes for Chinese srs to learn to cook Western (Canada) style.

- Do not go online very often to find information.
- ALG is difficult because of it being in English.
- General Comments:
- Hope that choir will continue
- Possible divide the current choir group into 2 different spaces.
- Looking for more rental time for other groups ie, dancing group.
- They pay a small amount for music so they can buy sheet music. Everything is coordinated by volunteer leader(s)
- Group is always growing.
